4 Basic Steps to Install Pegboard
Step 1: Making a Frame
To install your pegboard on the wall the first thing you should do is to prepare a frame. You can prepare the frame by performing 3 simple tasks.
First Task: At first you should observe the place or the wall on which you are going to hang your pegboard very carefully. Then measure the height and width of the wall. From these two data calculate the area.
Second Task: Take furring strips and if necessary cut them down to the required size.
Third Task: Now calculate the number of furring strips you need to make a frame and then mount the furring strips securely with the wall using screws.
What types of fastening element you will use to mount the frame on the wall sometimes depend on the nature of the wall. If it is a drywall use plastic anchor in addition to screws.
Step 2: Selecting the Pegboard Panel
The second important task is to select the pegboard panel of the right size. Pegboard panels are available in 3 different sizes and these sizes include 2-by-4-foot, 4-by-8-foot, and 4-by-4-foot pieces.
Depending on your requirement select the right size and buy as many as you need. If the size does not match with your requirements you can cut it using the jigsaw, circular saw, or table saw and give it your desired size.
Step 3: Install the Pegboard Panel on the Frame
Now it is time to install the pegboard in the frame. At first, you have to drill a pilot hole with a pilot drill bit to insert the screws using a screwdriver. Then install the pegboard panel in the frame. You also can use a screw gun, wood screws of 3/4-inch size and washers to install the pegboard panel.
Two tasks you have to perform with intense care while installing pegboard. These tasks include aligning external edges properly and marinating equal intervals between the screws.
If there is a possibility of dampening the base wall then it will be wise to cover both faces of the pegboard with several layers of varnish or primer and exterior paint.
Step 4: Adding Pegboard Accessory and Painting the Panel
Now if you want you can paint your pegboard with your favorite color to give it a beautiful look – it is an optional task.
You will find thousands of articles describing how to install pegboard elaborately. But, since I- myself do not like to go through the wide description of anything wasting a lot of time, I have written this article describing only the basic steps of pegboard installation.
In this article, I have instructed you to make a frame to install pegboard but if there are studs on the garage wall or on the base wall you do not need to make a frame, just fasten the pegboard with the screw to the studs. The vacancy between the studs is enough to provide space for hook insertion.
Pegboard installation does not take too much time. You have to spend minimum 2 hours or maximum 4 hours to accomplish this job.
